Have you ever felt that it would be nice if your Zoho Creator application could do with a different layout or color or font? Think no more. You can apply different layouts, colors, fonts and loads of other customizations to your Zoho Creator applications. No you don't have to be an html or css expert to do that. As is the norm at Zoho Creator, all this is possible at the click of a mouse.

Zoho Creator offers 6 different layouts for your applications. You can choose from Pane Left, Pane Right, Tabs,Tabbed Pane Left, Tabbed Pane Right and Dropdown menus. You can segregate your forms/views into various sections and apply the required layout so that your application gets the right look.

Layouts

Did you say what about the feel? Of course of course. We took care of that too. Zoho Creator offers 3 built in themes which can be applied to an application. Themes define the colour scheme of the application viz the colors that will be applied to the header strip, the component header, the buttons on the forms, etc., the over all font that will be applied to the application, the different styles that will be applied to the headers/tabs/ component headers/ forms/ views etc and so on.

Classic theme

The above one is what we call the Classic theme. Simple, straightforward, official looking which uses the Arial font across the application. The field labels are left aligned. Each form/view has a prominent looking header strip. And the views have borders on all sides.

The one below is the Gradient theme. A soft looking theme with Verdana font used across the application and a gradient applied to the header strip of the application. The field labels take the color of the theme.

Gradient Theme

The last but definitely not the least is the Contemporary theme. With Georgia font for the application and a very vibrant looking header strip for the application. The field labels/fields are center aligned and the rows in the view come with alternate row colors.

Contemporary

For now, the themes are available in 5 vibrant colours.

Theme Colours

The readymade themes don't quite hit home? Not a problem. You can also mix and match the various attributes and create your own themes. Again all these involve mere mouse clicks and no geeky coding!

Custom Theme

As you can see, we have ten attributes that you can play around with and come up with astounding themes for your application. You can also refer our help wiki for more details on creating different looks for your application..

So what are you waiting for? Give that plain looking application a dash of color and some style :)

Our goal is to make invoicing fast, easy and painless for our customers. When we say invoicing, we include the entire process of creating, sending, tracking and managing the invoices. More often than not, tracking and following-up for payments takes a lot of time and energy than the other activities. We clearly understand this. So, here we are in line with our goal introducing a brand new feature “Automatic Payment Reminders” which we hope will definitely help reduce your pain points.

Yes, now you can automate the process of sending payment reminders to your customers. We have tried to make this feature as flexible as possible (at least that is what we think :~))

  1. You can specify when each of these reminders has to be sent. Say for example you can configure that the first reminder has to be sent 2 days after the invoice due date, the second one 14 days after the due date and the third one 21 days after the due date.
  2. You have full control over the content of each of these reminders, still better you can make use of the placeholders in the content.
  3. You also have complete control over who has to be notified via each of these reminders. You can send it to yourself or send it to your customers directly and have yourself copied.

Configuring these automatic payment reminders is simple,

  1. Click on the “Settings” link and select the “Payment Reminders” link under “Invoice Settings”.
  2. In the “Payment Reminder” page that comes up each of these reminders can be configured by clicking on the appropriate row in the table.

You can try out this feature by signing into Zoho Invoice now. We would definitely like to hear your comments and don’t forget to drop us a note when you enjoy using this feature.

Happy Invoicing

za.pngIn this blog we talk about different Zoho applications and their features. But at the back-end, there is one little known module that connects all Zoho Applications - Zoho Accounts

Zoho Accounts took shape when we rolled out Single Sign-on for Zoho Apps. Since then, we added quite a bit of functionality enhancing Zoho Accounts which is included across all applications (check out 'My Account' link on the top right in any Zoho App). It is this module that enabled Google & Yahoo! sign-ins across Zoho Apps.

Zoho Accounts let you configure your personal settings that are common across all Zoho applications. The Contacts module lets you import contacts from multiple sources including your Google & Yahoo! Accounts. These contacts will be visible across other Zoho Apps like Zoho Mail. The Groups section lets you define groups that are common for all Zoho Apps. Once you have the Groups defined here, you'll be able to share your Documents, Spreadsheets etc to those Groups.

The Accounts section has other functionality like configuring your Email IDs, resetting your password etc. If you configure Skype ID here, it'll be shown in some Zoho Applications like Zoho Notebook when you share a Notebook with other users who use Skype. Zoho Meeting also integrates Skype.

As with other Zoho Applications, this module is improving at a rapid pace. Most of the enhancements in this module are not very noticeable because of the nature of this app. But this is a very important module that is going to play an important role when we integrate Zoho Apps.

No we dont officially support Safari yet, but if you still want to use Zoho apps in Safari, there is a way to do it.

Download the latest Webkit from Webkit.org and use Safari that comes with it. You'll be able to use Zoho Writer, Sheet and other apps as well (though we say we dont support safari yet). I have been playing with it for a few days and I didnt face many issues apart from some minor ones.

Interstingly, the version of Safari that comes with Webkit is the same (including the build number) as the version I had on my Mac.

We plan to support Safari after Leopard release.

Slowly, the dust is settling now on our recent Zoho Notebook launch at the DEMO Conference. As Aravind said in the previous post, we got a very good response on the Notebook launch. Our coverage list is here. Now the pressure is on us now to deliver a great product :).

Our launch video at DEMO 07 is put up in DEMO website.

What surprised me most was the response to the video I created for Notebook. We have more than 15K views of the video in these 3 days.

Announcing Zoho Notebook

I have a good news and a bad news today. The good news is, we are announcing Zoho Notebook, our latest addition to Zoho Suite. The bad news is, you'll not be able to play with it right away :(.

Zoho Notebook is an interesting application that is similar to your spiral bound notebook where you can write, draw or doodle, but this being a web application, you can add different types of pages to it. One page can be a photo page, another a word processor page, another a Spreadsheet page, another page can be an application...and the list goes on. To each page you can add different types of content such as text, images, audio or video (thanks to our partnership with Flixn) or even your business content. Notebook also comes with some drawing tools that can be used along with your content.
Zoho Notebook does three things well....

  1. It helps you create different types of content.
  2. It helps you aggregate content from multiple sources or applications.
  3. Fine grained collaboration

Please check out this demo video on YouTube which illustrates each of these functionalities better (You should excuse me for this amateur video. This is the first one I ever created.)

Here are couple of screenshots.

Please let us know your comments/suggestions.

Update:  Our launch video @ DEMO 07 is available here showcasing couple of additional features.
