iZoho - Zoho for iPhone

Raju Vegesna  June 28, 2007 11: 00 am

…or should I say ‘Office for your iPhone‘. This is fun project going live in record time (thanks to our APIs and of course our team).
iZoho (no, its not an online desktop :)) is an easier way to access your Zoho Apps on your Mobile…atleast, iPhone for now. Sure, you can use Zoho Apps in their current form on your iPhone, but there is lot of stuff you don’t need on your mobile phone. So we simplified the interface and just provided simple features you’d normally use on a mobile phone.

We have three applications available currently in iZoho - Zoho Writer, Sheet and Show which lets you view your documents, spreadsheets and presentations in Zoho. Currently you can view and edit your documents, but you cannot edit your spreadsheets and presentations (you can only view them). You can also create new documents and view your presentations in landscape mode. There will be more features coming as we move along.
Frankly, we don’t know how this will work on iPhone as we haven’t tested it. It certainly works well on Safari so we hope it’ll be a non-issue. In any case, we will be fine tuning this over the next few days.

As I mentioned earlier, a device with a big screen, built in Wi-Fi, good usability and a full fledged browser will only improve the chances of practically using web apps on a mobile device.
Do give it a try and let us know what you think (support at zoho.com). Below are some screenshots.

Wonderful product! I’m testing it on my iPhone right now and there seems to be a reformatting problem. I opened up the Welcome document and it doesn’t seem to know the boundary limitations (pixel format?) of the iPhone’s display. I only see about 50% of the left portion of the document. I can’t pan the document to the left either. Let’s hope this gets fixed soon because I think Zoho can be the definitive iPhone office webapp! Thanks!

    Hi Jin,

Thanks for your comment. The iPhone interface of Writer is designed in such a way that the contents of documents are wrapped by default to fit into the viewport of the iPhone. If however, there are elements in the document that have a fixed width (eg. an image whose width is greater than 320 px), we display the content as is and hence it looks clipped. You can scroll through the clipped part of the document by using the two finger scroll gesture (ie. left to right and vice versa). Try out the same and let us know if you see any issues.

    Hello,

I’m afraid i don’t manage to edit documents on my iPhone…
I can’t even create any new document !
Do i use the correct Zoho URL : izoho.com ?
Each time i go to this address, i’m redirected to mobile.zoho.com
so maybe this is the issue.

Thanks in advance for helping me use what seems to be a wonderful feature.

Pierre : Thanks for trying Zoho Mobile and taking your time to write to us. We currently don’t support creation and editing of documents from the iPhone interface. We are however working on providing the ability to create new documents and the same should be available soon (only plain text editor though). Will keep you posted once it is out.
