OmniDrive becomes perfect with Zoho

Early last year I talked about Shortcomings of existing online storage solutions where the primary issue was upload/download. Once you have your documents uploaded to online storage solutions, you have to download them to view/edit them. This defeated the purpose of having online storage and hence online storage solutions were used more for backup than being your extended drive.
All of this is history today. OmniDrive, the online storage solution overcomes this limitation by integrating Zoho Apps. I call it ‘The Perfect Online Drive’. What does this mean? Well, if you have your documents online in OmniDrive, you can view/edit these documents just by double clicking on them. The documents then are opened in Zoho Applications. As of today you can open Word, HTML, txt and ODT formats in Zoho Writer. Next week this will also work with Zoho Sheet and Show as well.
Apart from viewing/editing documents online, you can also create new documents directly from OmniDrive.
It was really great working with OmniDrive on this solution. Look forward for more integration. Below are couple of screenshots.

Basu,
Yes, we will provide a way to add Zoho documents in Omnidrive in a future update. This would also provide another back-up for your Zoho documents, in addition to the back-ups we ourselves are doing.

Wow! it seems that this update or news has got some really good responce! Well, certainly that is a really cool collaboration. Omnidrive is certainly good and after zoho’s integration it becomes even better and I’m sure that will help both the companies
So will it also be possible to save files onto Omnidrive from my zoho account, and access my zoho a/c from omnidrive?
At the moment, it seems like the two are separate, with no way to reconcile them (unless perhaps I save a zoho doc to an omnidrive directory on my desktop?)

Tony:
At this point we dont have a way to save one files in the other application. But we are working towards that. As I said, this is just a beginning of a long term relation.
[…] Late last week, Web Office provider Zoho and online storage company Omnidrive announced a partnership, allowing users to edit a Zoho office document and save directly into Omnidrive. Also, both Omnidrive and Zoho released APIs. The news has already been covered in-depth elsewhere - e.g. TechCrunch and Zoli’s Blog. As Zoli Erdos pointed out in his post, the partnership is a useful step forward in seamless on-and-offline computing. […]
I like the direction this is going and look forward to seeing it develop. Here’s a problem I’m looking at. I have non-techie clients who run a small conference center. They want an easy way to produce PDFs of their upcoming event fliers and have them available from their website. What I’d love to do is have them make up their fliers in Zoho inside Omnidrive, then export them as PDFs also to Omnidrive, all linkable from their site. With Zoho’s javascript code, they could even have it easily sync up on their site. Even better would be if there was some sort of automatic link to PDFs of public Zoho documents. Lots of work here, but a webmaster can dream!

[…] Omnidrive enhanced their Zoho integration by adding support for Zoho Sheet. Good stuff and some more interesting tidbits listed in that article. I forget, did we ever see anymore on the hopes for a Netvibes widget for Omnidrive? […]
It seems to me that if Zoho and OmniDrive are really to be integrated, in all of the Zoho applications the “Save As” command should give the user the option of saving to an OmniDrive folder (by analogy with the desktop OS option of choosing a different folder/directory as the location of a saved document).
Otherwise, many compliments and thanks for the most useful of the online-document engines on the scene.
Interesting… Since Zoho already has a whole suite of applications, what is stopping Zoho from creating ZohoDrive?
