Introducing The Zoho Affiliate Program

Today we are happy to announce the Zoho Affiliate Program. The Zoho Affiliate Program allows publishers, bloggers and site owners in general to make money by referring customers to Zoho.

Becoming a Zoho Affiliate is easy:
1. Setup your account at zoho.com/affiliate . You will need to use a PayPal account as part of the sign-up process (that’s how we’ll pay you).
2. Use our promotional tools & banners to tell your site visitors about the benefits of the Zoho Services.
3. Collect your money

It is really that straightforward.

Behind the scenes, what happens is that whenever one of your website visitors clicks on the links, they are tracked as they sign-up for a Zoho service. If they pay and subscribe to one of our services, you get money credited to your account. If they sign-up for the free version and later upgrade, you get money credited to your account too. Not only that, but because Zoho works on a subscription model, affiliates earn money on the initial payment and also on subsequent monthly renewals (up to 1 year). How much? We think we are being quite generous, you can check the different rates for subscription and recurring commissions.

Today we are launching the Affiliate program with Zoho Invoice and Zoho Projects. We are working on adding more services to this mix. And yes, as an affiliate, you can promote as little or as many services as make sense for the content in your site and your audience.

I would also suggest that you pay affiliate commissions indefinitely so long as the user is subscribed to the services.

Would not be interested much if the affiliate commissions are not available after a year.

Why only one year? Isn’t it in the best interest of everyone to pay affiliate commissions indefinitely? It will help you guys with retention, and it will help solutions providers with a predictable revenue stream.

It makes it immensely more difficult when the revenue dries up after only a few months, and the ongoing revenue split is only 10%. Not sure how much it takes to run the service, but for a tech company its basically 100% profit (almost) once the basic infrastructure is in place.

A 25% split for forever would be much more appealing (for both the affiliates and Zoho), and you would create a loyal following that will make the business grow like crazy.

I totally agree with you – the affiliate program is not intended for teachers telling students type of situation.

It is intended for commercial relationships – for example solution providers recommend Zoho and bundle Zoho products and implementation services. In such cases the customers know the solution provider has a commercial interest in recommending Zoho (much like I know when I go to a store that the salesperson has a commercial interest in selling to me!).

I have been teaching (and recommending) Zoho to my students at IIT Kharagpur and at Praxis Business School, Calcutta for the past two years and initially I was very excited about signing up for the affiliate program but then I had cold feet …

Why ?

As a teacher I am free to recommend whatever I believe is good for my class and the students respect my advice. How would they react if they were to know that the teacher is making money from his recommendations ? Would my recommendations still carry the weight that I believe they do ?

I have doubts.

So, while I wish you well with your affiliate program, I think I will stay out of it. I have recommended Zoho when there was no question of being paid to do so … and perhaps I would be better off that way.
