Tailor Zoho Projects to Fit Your Needs with Custom Fields

However deep or broad we make it, a one-size-fits-all project management solution can’t address your needs as closely as one which is made for you. So we’re coming up with a set of features that makes Zoho Projects more amenable to customization. To start things off, we’re happy to announce the introduction of custom fields for projects.

What is a project custom field? Every project has default fields, such as the project name, owner, and overview. You can now add your own fields apart from these to address your specific requirements. Read more

Time is on your side with Global Timers

I recently had the pleasure of meeting NASA Project Manager Jan Chodas at a conference we both attended. Chodas worked on NASA’s Juno mission to Jupiter; a project with a non-negotiable launch date. If the deadline was missed, Chodas and her team would have to wait close to a year before trying again.

Of course, not every project has this strict a deadline, but most projects have a schedule that individuals and teams have to be in tune with in order to be successful. And now, Zoho Projects can help you and your team stay on track from start to finish.

Over the last few months we’ve made several tweaks to Zoho Projects, especially in the BugTracker module, to enhance your experience. Here is an overview of these improvements.

Screen-grabber

The screen-grabber lets you take quick snapshots of what you see on screen and make posts using these. A built-in draw tool lets you highlight what is important and blackout what you don’t want to be seen. The screen-grabber first appeared in the smart add screen located on top of the project feed. This was well received, so we started adding it to more places in Projects we felt were appropriate. Screens can now be grabbed while creating tasks, submitting bugs, making forum posts, posting comments, and attaching files. Can you find more?

We’ve also added a crop feature to the draw tool. Read more

Set right expectations to your clients and then surpass them using SLAs

The fundamental equation of happiness proposed by Baucells and Sarin in their book ‘Engineering Happiness’ goes:

HAPPINESS equals REALITY minus EXPECTATIONS

If you are a business that wants to make its clients happy, what does this mean to you? If the service you provide — the reality — merely meets expectations, you create zero happiness! You have to surpass expectations even to begin making people happy. Your marketing team, by loudly trumpeting your strengths, may get you several loyal customers. But this has an effect that doesn’t look so pretty given the above equation: high expectations‘Engineering happiness’ may thus seem a daunting task, but fret not; we have it all sorted out! Allow us to present Service Level Agreements and their automation.

Bring your team closer together

Here is a trend we see more and more when it comes to projects that are creative in nature: the best work gets done not through individual efforts, but by a group of people, collaboratively refining, reimagining and reinventing ideas. All the apps in the Docs suite come with several features that let such collaboration happen naturally. First and foremost, all these documents can be co-created; i.e. more than one person can work on them at the same time. You can chat with all the collaborators as you go, right within the document window. Getting feedback is easy; each letter in your text documents and each cell in your spreadsheets can be commented on. An inbuilt versioning system lets you view the changes a document has gone through, and if needed revert to an older version. Read more

In the tasks view, we’ve added a column that just shows an arrow next to each task. A green arrow pointing downwards here indicates that the logged work hours so far, is less than the planned work hours. However, a red up arrow indicates that the logged hours have overshot the planned hours. Scanning through this column gives you a quick overview of how well your team is able to stick to plan.  Read more
